   I am here at Dorokha which is 3 hours drive from Samtse, Bhutan. I am lucky that I got an opportunity to experience Dashain tika. It is my first time celebrating Dashain. Yeah! It is interesting and lively. But more than a celebration, I realized that it is a time to reunite family members.  Dashain is celebrated all over Bhutan, but especially in the southern parts of the country. Observant Hindus will keep all 15 days, but it is the tenth day, known as Vijayadashami, that is the true highlight. While all Hindus, and even some non-Hindus, might take part in Dashain events, it’s technically a celebration of the “Shaktism” sect within Hinduism, which focuses its attention on worshiping various goddesses, such as Lakshmi or Kali.   A Year ago, I started blogging without having much idea about it. Well, the story I am going to share with you today is about Mr. Li Hua from the city of Yongzhou in central china’s Hunan province.   At the age of 18, he was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis. Ankylosing spondylitis is an inflammatory disease that, over time, can cause some of the small bones in your spine (vertebrae) to fuse. This fusing makes the spine less flexible and can result in a hunched-forward posture. If ribs are affected, it can be difficult to breathe deeply (Mayo Clinic, 2019). Mr.Li did not have the financial means for proper treatment and relied on his elderly mother for 28 years and she was only his full-time carer.   Have you seen a man weaving cloth in your community?   Well, In Bhutan, we hardly see a man weaving and I agree that most of you have not seen it. Or may I know your opinion on it?   So, today I am going to share a story of a man who found weaving as the most suitable livelihood asset. As a young boy, he used to worry a lot about his life. He used to think of every alternative that would help him to sustain his life until one day when he realized himself growing interesting in weaving. And he is 38-year-old Tandin wangchuk from Tashigang.   He was 3rd born in his family of eight siblings and he had to sacrifice his school days for younger ones. Therefore as a young boy, he learned weaving with utmost interest. It is amazing to know that he used to support his brothers with the little amount he earned by weaving. Isn’t that awesome? Well, he used to weave all types of Traditional Bhutanese dresses including "Kishuthar",  "dwhor" and "karchang" for sale. H

Our villagers are so superstitious that they refuse to take modern health facilities. The villagers are conditioned to believe that when someone die, his/her soul is taken by the local deities.   The picture of Tashi Tagye (eight auspicious sign) བཀྲིས་རྟགས་བརྒྱད། is very popular in our society. We see it being painted on wall, building, dzongs, monastery   and everywhere. In Sanskrit , it is known as ‘Ashtamangala’,   Ashta mean eight and Mangala means auspicious.   Every year, 3 rd day of first lunar month is celebrated as pema Lingpa day coinciding with his death anniversary. It is more than a celebration of his death anniversary because it is a day where Bhutanese pay tribute to its own country man who has great influence in the Bhutanese history. In ancient Rome, The Emperor Claudius II was pagan and has his strict law which prohibits Romans from marrying. It was around 3rd century back. During that time, Roman Catholic Saint St.valentine converted himself into Christian and started helping to marry those soldiers in secret Christian ceremony. It was during those times when many Romans where converting themselves into Christian. However, valentine's secret act was later revealed by Emperor and he was jailed. While imprisoned, he cared his fellow prisoners and  jailor's blind daughter. It is believed that Saint Valentine restored jailor's blind daughter before his final execution  for going against Claudius rule.
